The March 2019 Bridge: Connecting REPL and End Users in Nigeria
March was a landmark tour for REPL and its country partner FixOnTime Limited, moving REPL forward in our plan to be even closer to our customers and especially end users.
The training team was led by Eng. Neville Kyme and Dr. Eng. Jehad Nasser. While Mr. Kyme ensured the jointers got better with installation, Mr. Nasser was keen on ensuring the utilities were satisfied, obtaining feedback, and noting any problems usually encountered. At the same time, getting trainees acquainted with functions of each part of REPL kits, hence, emphasising every part in the kit was essential for good installation and nothing was added as charity.
Day 1 – The training kicked off with Ikeja Electric, where jointers were presented for a “Certificated Jointer” degree. It began with a demo on day one, followed by a practical session for all jointers. Each jointer was examined individually on various processes of installation practised on each core of a 36kV 3-Core XLPE cable. The assessment report will be a useful tool to Ikeja Electric to match and form teams and select team leaders, a follow up training will also assist in tracking improvement since previous training.
Kano Electricity, Ibadan Electricity and Abuja Electricity were also among beneficiary DisCos where the training took place.
Day 2 – of the AEDC training in Abuja was particularly exciting in that it was done on the field, using one of the emergency cable faults awaiting repair. This gave AEDC team a special training session of TIME versus LEARNING. This was successful, as intended.
The March tour cut across many states of Nigeria, where four electricity distribution companies were visited and various training categories were conducted for their Cable jointers, for positive bearing on Nigeria power sector improvement. It was a pleasant overview of Nigeria in part for our trainers as well.
The trip to Nigeria would not have been possible without the support and diligent planning from REPL exclusive distributor, Engr. Wale Adereti, Technical Partner and Director at FixOnTime Limited, their distributing partner companies and the warm reception of the management and members of staff at all the distribution companies.
We look forward to continuing this support and relationship.
